ENS stands for Early Neurological Stimulation, and it is a set of exercises designed to stimulate and develop the neurological system of puppies during their early stages of life. The purpose of ENS is to enhance the overall health, temperament, and performance of the puppies as they grow into adult dogs.
ENS involves a series of five specific exercises that are performed on puppies between the ages of 3 to 16 days. These exercises include:
1. Tactile Stimulation: This exercise involves gently touching different parts of the puppy's body, such as the paws, tail, and ears, to promote sensory development and tolerance to touch.
2. Head Held Up: The puppy is held upright, with its head above the level of its body, for a short period of time. This exercise helps to develop the puppy's balance and coordination.
3. Supine Position: The puppy is placed on its back for a brief period, which helps to develop its ability to relax and be handled in different positions.
4. Thermal Stimulation: The puppy is exposed to a temperature change by placing it on a cool surface for a few seconds, followed by placing it on a warm surface. This exercise helps to improve the puppy's ability to adapt to different environmental conditions.
5. Sudden Loud Noise: A sudden, sharp noise is made near the puppy to startle it gently. This exercise helps to develop the puppy's ability to recover from unexpected stimuli and build resilience.
These exercises are performed once or twice a day for a few seconds each, and they are believed to have long-lasting effects on the puppy's neurological development. ENS is thought to improve the puppy's cardiovascular performance, stress tolerance, immune system, and overall health. It is also believed to contribute to the puppy's ability to handle stress and adapt to new environments later in life.
It is important to note that ENS should only be performed by experienced breeders or professionals who are knowledgeable about the proper techniques and timing. It is not recommended for inexperienced individuals to attempt ENS without proper guidance, as it can potentially harm the puppies if done incorrectly. We take great pride in providing a well socialized, healthy pup and our ENS program helps us accomplish that here at Doodle Puppy Crew.
